Ephesians 4:1-16


November 7th
Ephesians 4:1-16 (NIV) and KJV

Unity and Maturity in the Body of Christ

1 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. 8 This is why it says:
“When he ascended on high,
    he took many captives
    and gave gifts to his people.”
9 (What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) 11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers.
 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. 

Title: Lets walk together.
Overview: Paul now shows how God made provision for those in the church to live and work together in unity and to grow together into maturity.

The grace of unity (4:1-3)  
Each part of your body is Different from other parts yet all make up ONE body and work together. (The body of Christ works together and it can not work together without a part just like the Human body. (7 Christian graces)
* Lowliness or humility *  self last means knowing ourselves and being ourselves to the glory of God   

The ground of unity (4:4-6)
*One body - which is the Body of Christ.
* one spirit - The same spirit indwells in each Believer. * One hope of your calling - this refers to the return of The Lord to take his church to heaven.  * One Lord - This is our lord Jesus Christ who died for us, lives for us and one day will come for us. * One faith - There is one settled body of truth deposited by Christ in his church. * One baptism - The  "One baptism" is the baptism of the spirit when you give you life to Jesus. 
1 Corinthians 12:13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 
* One God and Father. - for God is over all and we have the same father in heaven. 

The gifts of unity (4:7-11) Paul takes about spiritual gifts in this section. We as Believers in Jesus Christ we each have a spiritual Gift or gifts. Everyone has a different gift that God gives us to use to help Brothers and Sisters in The Lord. What is your spiritual gift or gifts?

The growth of unity (4:12-16)
True believers growing gradually until they reach spiritual maturity (the measure of stature of fullness of Christ) 
 gifted leaders are supposed to equip the saints unto the work of ministry.
the member of the church grow my using there gifts and ministering to each other.

serve The Lord.

There are going to people that prosecute you for being a Believer in Christ Jesus! Look in the Bible there were many people prosecute for there faith in Jesus. As we go threw are lives and go threw trials and we think of the people in third world country's being beheaded for there faith in Jesus in many Muslim country's they are being beheaded for telling the TRUTH. We are for sure living in the last days my Brothers and sisters we are for sure. I can tell you one thing that is for sure its going to get worse and it wont get better in our lives. You are going to loose Friends for your faith. you will go threw places in your life where you have to choose between living for this world or for the Lord.

Joshua 24:14-15 (NIV)
14 “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

DO NOT BE LUKEWARM!!!! 
Revelation 3:14-16 (NIV)
To the Church in Laodicea

14 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm neither hot nor cold I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

We are not in a cakewalk brothers and sisters. We are not promised a cakewalk!!! 
Wake up and walk with the lord and give the Lord everything you have he has given everything. We need to walk as Christians and stop being lukewarm! 
pray for you enemies and the people that come against you and other brothers and sisters in Christ! We need to be together as ONE body and stop being divided! 

Matthew 5:44 (NIV)
44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

Jesus Is Coming Soon (Oh Whatever!) By Tim Cameron....

Knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they werefrom the beginning of creation” (2 Peter 3:3).

At a popular local gym, Ted sat looking in the mirror, impressed by his results when in walks Jack. Getting buff was not the first thing on Jack’s mind.

“Looking good Ted, but what you really need to do is get to know Jesus. He is coming soon!”

“Yeah right! Wacko…”

“No, I’m telling you, Jesus is coming.”

“Heard that ALL MY LIFE, He hasn’t shown up yet.”

“Yeah, but Jesus said when you see certain things, to look up.”

“Dude, the sun will come up tomorrow and go down tomorrow night.”

“I know it will but Jesus warned all who would listen, when you see Israel being surrounded and pressured to give up land for peace, that the Day of the Lord is at hand.”

“Oh NO, not another conspiracy theory, nut job.”

Okay, lets back up, you have a Bible right?”

“Yeah, so what.”

 “Well, have you read where Jesus said there would be earthquakes in diverse places, and war and rumors of more wars?’

“That’s been going on my whole life.”

 “True, but have you seen any charts of the rapid increase in this stuff just over the last twenty years?”

 “No, but come on, that’s a pretty weak argument.”

“Have you ever seen a picture of Israel a hundred years ago? It was a barren land, and then just like Jesus saidthere would come a day that Israel would be a re-born nation and begin to thrive. In 1948 Israel was given nation status and look at Israel now, just since 1948! Jesus said when mankind saw THAT take place, they would know the end of the age was at hand, and let me add, have you read Daniel chapter 12, where he was told to write the words of a prophecy and seal it up until the end, and that at the end, knowledge would increase and people would travel to and fro?”

“For thousands of years travel was with horses, donkeys and camels but then, boom, in the same century of Israel’s rebirth, we see the crazy changes in travel. You can literally ship packages around the world in three days and can talk instantly globally through text, tweet or chat. Knowledge increasing? Satellite TV’s in SUVS with GPS talking to you while you listen to a song just downloaded seconds ago via iTunes in the UK...need I say more?”

“I mean Jesus said you can see the western sky and know it’s going to storm, but how is it you can’t discern the signs of the times? Same sex marriage is trending, traditional marriage is scorned, violence is increasing, love is waxing cold, the nations of the world are becoming enslaved to debt, and governments are playing God. I’m telling you, Jesus is coming soon!”

“Well you believe what’s right for you, I’ve got my own truth, and heyI believe in Jesus, too.”

 “You do?”

“Yeah, sure I do, me and Jesus are homeboys, He lets me do my thing and I let Him do His.”

“I’m not sure we are talking about the same Jesus, the One who says, “Take up your cross and follow Me?”

“Hey now, don’t judge me bro, I wear a cross, see!”

“Okay sure, but are you following Him with your daily walk? I mean do you read your Bible and have any desire to tell others to flee the wrath to come? I mean do you ever share the gospel or pray for anyone to be saved?”

 “Hey, I never claimed to be a fanatic. I trust Jesus that today is going to be my best day ever, and He is going to bless me and like I said, I’ve got to live my truth and you’ve got to live yours.”

 “Well, let me ask you a few more things. When the Bible says for those who believe in Him to be “watching and praying” and to be sober and serious in our praying -- for the end of all things is at hand, what does that say to you? Does it mean anything to you that the Scriptures say, the Spirit and the bride cry Jesus come quickly? And how about when Jesus told Nicodemus that ‘We must be born-again to enter the kingdom of heaven.’ Doesn’t all of that make you think?”

“No, man that is so off my radar, I’ve got a life to live, a 401k to grow, places to go and people to see.”

 “Look I’m not trying to make you mad, I’m just trying to make sure you’re ready.”

 “Ready? FOR WHAT?”

 “Jesus, He’s coming soon?”

 “Dude I’m not worried. It will all pan out in the end.”

“The end? What are you going to do when you stand before God at the end? Are YOU NOT LISTENING?”

“Jesus and me are homeboys and He knows I’m a good person, He knows my heart.”

“YES HE DOES, and He says our hearts are wicked. Have you ever repented of trusting in yourself? Have you believed upon Him whom your sins crucified? Have you ever put all your trust in Christ? Repented?”

 “Dude, I don’t need to hear all of that religious mumbo jumbo, I’ve got my truth and you’ve got yours. Now like I said, I’ve got a life to live. You can go on doing what you do, looking for Jesus, I guess, but I’m going to live for the here and now.”

In heaven Jesus sat watching and said, “You are a lost man unwilling to accept the truth, this night your soul will be required.” Jesus wept knowing Ted would never come to accept Him and would be lost forever.

Hours later, driving home, a semi-truck loses control and crashes into the deluded man’s false reality and his earthly life comes to an end. Now, catapulting into outer darkness (It’s appointed unto man once to die and then the judgment!) this man trembles with fear, screaming, “God, I was a GOOD person,” he begs and pleads. “God, where are you?”

Overwhelming terror overtakes him in the pitch-black darkness.

“I should have listened to that guy at gym,” he sobbed.

“He tried to warn me to pay attention to what the Bible says. I should have listened. Please, God, don’t let it be too late!”

He was haunted by the silence as no reply was given.

Flashing before his face, a replay from earlier that day, the image of the man at the gym pleading with him to get serious about the Lord. Jack had tried many times to reason with Ted, but Ted was too self-righteous to listen and hear the truth.

Ted had many opportunities to get to know God and heed His Word, but now it was too late. He had been cast into hell weeping desperately, even gnashing his teeth. The time will also come at the end of Jesus’1000-year millennial reign on earth when Ted will stand before God at the White Throne Judgment to hear his eternal sentence (an eternity in the lake of fire with all others who reject the Savior). But he already knows that he has NO HOPE of escape. It is too late for Ted.

What about you, dear reader? How does the message of Jesus’ soon return hit you? Does it resonate and bring joy and excitement, or do you too, hate it, mock it and live as if its a fairy tale to be shelved into a “to be read much later” section of your life?

Salvation is “by grace through faith, not by works lest anyone should boast.” Have you received that free gift of grace? Are you really alive in Christ? If you have no desire to be where He is, if you have no hunger to read His Word, if you have no burden in your life about the sinful state of your existence and aren’t living a joyfully forgiven lifestyle of repentance, you might want to examine yourself and make sure you “are in the faith.” I pray you might be asking, “What must I do to be saved?”

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thy heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For “whoever calls on the name of theLord shall be saved” (Romans 10:9-13).

Please take the Word of God seriously before it is too late.

Ephesians 3:14-21 (NIV) A Prayer for the Ephesians

14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 

16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 
17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 
18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 
19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.       
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, 
for ever and ever! Amen.

Title: The prayer for inner fullness and knowledge. 

Overview of Vs:14-21. Paul expresses a prayer that grows out of his awareness of all that God is doing in believers. Gods key gifts are "Power"(Vs 16,18,20) and "Love"(Vs: 17-19).  

Vs: 14,15- "The invocation" 
The first thing that we see in this passage Paul is on his knees. "I bow my knees". Paul's prayer was addressed to "The father" though the Son and in the spirit.

Vs: 16-19. "The petition" 
There are four requests in Paul's prayer, 
Strength (Vs:16) The presence of the Holy Spirit in the life is evidence of salvation (Romans 8:9), Depth (Vs:17) (Dwell, Rooted and grounded), Apprehension (Vs:18,19a) or "Comprehend" , Fulness (Vs.19b) God wants us to experience his fullness or "Filled unto all the fullness of God".

Vs: 20,21. The "Benediction" 
He teaches us that His power is so great that he has reconciled Jews and gentiles to each-other.

12 I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete.

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
